On Saturday February 5th, FC Barcelona defeated Club Atletico de Madrid 3-0. It was a big day for the club and it's top player, Lionel Messi. Messi scored all three goals for Barcelona. It was Messi's fourth hat trick of the season and it put him on top of the 'pichichi' as the leagues leading scorer. The club also made La Liga history by winning its 16th consecutive match. Barcelona broke the record of Real Madrid from their 1960-61 season.
Messi's fellow Argentine National teammate had his own hat trick on Saturday too. Carlos Tevez scored all three goals for Manchester City in their 3-0 defeat over West Bromwich. What made the three goals and victory a little sweeter for Tevez is the fact that he was celebrating his 27th birthday. When Tevez was substituted for, he was given a standing ovation. What a birthday it was for him and it probably could not have gotten much better!
Hopefully these two will be traveling with the Argentine National team when they visit the Meadowlands to play the USA National team in a friendly match on March 26th. The game falls during a FIFA International Break which means both would be eligible to play. It would be a treat and quite exciting for soccer fans to get to see these two play in person.
