And so it begins...

Let Super Bowl information overload begin. Until 6:30 on Sunday February 6 we will be unable to escape the hype of the biggest game in American sports. Some may enjoy the hype and others may hate it.

I think this Super Bowl has an interesting story to tell and it's inevitable that somewhere within these two weeks that someone will tell it. The story of Ben Roethlisberger.

Big Ben had to sit the first four games of the season due to an alleged sexual assault, we know this. He seems to stand no chance of ever being labeled anything but a villain. The media and we as sports fans are probably having a hard time watching Big Ben have this success. He started at a low and has now risen up. He came back this season and picked up the Pittsburgh Steelers leading them to the Super Bowl, which will be his third. Most people are questioning why him? Why does he deserve this? A lot of people are probably mad.

I on the other hand am happy for him. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance. He is a talented and brilliant quarterback. He should be on the Steelers all-time best list. The sexual assault allegations will forever haunt him. I just hope that people, sports fans & media alike, can look at him for the great quarterback he is without letting the allegations take anything away from that.

I don't expect him to ever be labeled something as prestigious as a hero but I do expect people who love sports to have respect for him. He has to win one more game before he can rise as high as he possibly can. Hopefully we as a media consumed society will let him enjoy it.
